Red Light Therapy
The Healing Power of Light: Benefits of Red Light Therapy for Horses, Pets, Livestock & People
Red Light Therapy (also known as photobiomodulation or PBM) is a gentle, non-invasive session that uses specific wavelengths of light to support healthy circulation, muscle comfort, and recovery. It's calm and quiet, and it's comfortable for almost any body, from a 1,200-lb performance horse to a senior dog, a barn cat, a backyard goat, or the human holding the lead rope. Most clients, two-legged and four-legged, find it deeply relaxing.
Here is why I love including red light in my sessions:
Who It's For
Horses: performance, pleasure, and senior horses
Dogs & Cats: active dogs, working dogs, and aging pets who could use a little extra comfort
Livestock & Farm Animals: goats, sheep, donkeys, mini horses, alpacas, and more
People: riders, barn owners, and anyone who works hard with their body
Key Benefits
1. Support for Recovery
Red and near-infrared light reach into the tissue and support the mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell) and healthy cellular energy.
Muscles & Soft Tissue: Supports recovery after hard work, whether that's a cross-country course, an agility run, a day of herding, or a long day of mucking stalls.
Alongside Professional Care: A gentle option that fits with the care plan from your animal's veterinarian or your own healthcare provider.
2. Comfort and Relaxation
Red light is a soothing, drug-free way to help bodies of every size feel more comfortable.
Healthy Circulation: Encourages healthy blood flow to the area being worked on.
Seniors & Hard Workers: A gentle comfort session for older animals, working animals, and the people who care for them.
Post-Workout Comfort: Helps ease muscle tightness after intense training, competition, or a physically demanding day.
3. Performance and Muscle Comfort
Helps athletes on any number of legs feel good and stay ready to perform.
Muscle Relaxation: Helps release tight spots and tension, supporting flexibility and range of motion.
Increased Circulation: Healthy blood flow brings oxygen and nutrients to working muscles.
Supple Tissue: Supports healthy, elastic connective tissue.
4. Legs, Hooves, Paws & Joints
Red light can be focused on lower legs, hooves, paws, and the areas that carry the most load to encourage healthy circulation. For any hoof, paw, or joint concern, I work alongside your veterinarian, farrier, or healthcare provider, never in place of them.
What to Expect
- Sessions are calm, quiet, and done wherever your animal is most comfortable: in the barn, the pasture, or at home.
- Light is never directed into the eyes. Animals and people stay relaxed and can move freely.
- Red light can be booked on its own or added to a bodywork session.
